Lexica partners with Cervest to help British healthcare providers understand the climate-related risk affecting their assets and operations
LONDON – 27 October 2022 Health and life sciences consultancy Lexica today announced a partnership with climate intelligence company Cervest. Lexica will leverage Cervest's climate intelligence (CI) to screen and analyze the climate exposure of critical infrastructure assets such as hospitals, medical clinics and other healthcare facilities across the UK.
Lexica’s team of consultants will use Cervest’s flagship product, EarthScan™, to more accurately assess climate risk exposure down to individual asset-level. EarthScan, the first offering on Cervest’s climate intelligence platform, provides a comprehensive view of asset-level climate risk for the upcoming 80 years, across multiple climate emissions scenarios, and climate hazards, including heat stress, flooding, drought, precipitation and extreme wind. Lexica will use these insights to develop strategic, operational and financial plans for its healthcare clients.
“Lexica has put a robust and exciting growth strategy in place to cement its position as the UK’s leading health and life sciences consultancy. We have chosen Cervest as our partner because we believe its cutting-edge technology and science-backed climate intelligence insights will help us develop more precise climate risk adaptation assessments for our clients. These insights will also help healthcare providers understand the climate-related risk of their assets, operations and supply chains and make better-informed decisions. We look forward to working together on a number of exciting projects, making the British healthcare sector more climate resilient”, said Lucy Symons-Jones - Net Zero Director at Lexica.
The healthcare industry is at high risk of climate-driven natural hazards which can have a serious impact on everything from infrastructure durability and supply chain continuity, to staff wellbeing and patient care. Recent extreme weather events like the record-breaking temperatures in July, which raised a level 4 heat-health alert in the UK, have shown the significant strain the industry is under.
The UK Health Security Agency is also projecting that the numbers of heat related deaths will triple by 2050, with the hottest summers on record, becoming simply “normal” summers. These increasingly volatile climate-related incidents reiterate how important it is for the healthcare industry to accelerate its climate intelligence journey.
